Equipment

We have a large amount of equipment that can help people to ski no matter what their disability. Following are examples of the type of equipment available at our Sunday sessions:

Bi-Unique Bi-Ski – this is a highly sophisticated device consisting of a bucket seat and foot rest arrangement mounted onto a pair of self carving skis. This along with hand-held outriggers enables people unable to walk but with reasonable upper body strength to ski. Initially instructors ski directly behind to allow the skier to get the feeling for the device and later with tethers that provide turning and braking help, and eventually to ski unaided.
Mountain Man Bi-Ski – This is similar to the Bi-Unique but has adjustable fixed outriggers that allows people with little on no upper body strength to ski with the use of head movement only.
Zimmer Frame with Skis – The skier stands inside the zimmer frame and instructors tether from behind. This really helps people with limited leg strength.
Ski-Bra – this holds the tips of the skis together and is used in the early stages of learning to ski and is often used with a ski separator, located at the boots, to fix the skier in a snow plough position.
Ski-trombone – A more technical device than the Ski-Bra and can be used with tethers allowing an instructor to help the skier to turn.
Edgy-Wedgy – When a skier has got the hang of skiing with a Ski-Bra or Ski-Trombone they progress to an Edgy-Wedgy which allows greater movement of the ski tips .
